THARU TRADITION

DSCF6468

Decorations are inspired by the Tharu Lehenga, the typical skirts worn by Tharu women in Tarai, South Nepal.

The Dangaura Tharu (Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailai) lehenga originated from the Mughal’s Lehenga of the Avadh region in India. The lehenga worn by Rana Tharus (ethnic group living in Kailali and Kanchanpur) seems to have Rajput’s Ghaghra Choli origin. The Kathariya Tharu lehenga looks like a mixture of Dangaura and Rana lehenga.
